Doubt

After discussions with my tutor, we’ve decided to make the portfolio pieces a little shorter this time around, and a little more focused on what we’ve been studying. This semester I’ve been diving into classical music writing and techniques during the first few weeks – done some analysis and transcription of the first movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia Op27 #2, best known as the “Moonlight Sonata”. Whilst this piece doesn’t exactly adhere to the Sonata-Allegro first movement format, it does have some crude resemblances to it. What the piece DOES achieve in some measure, is to emulate the feel of piano pieces typical of the early 18th century, albeit more in the form of a study (or “etude” for the French inclined) rather than a full blown piano sonata.
