Downtime

Hi folks – just a quick note to say that I’ve been quiet on here other than the Pianobook post because I’ve been having back issues, and because I’ve been helping my mum deal with the flurry of medical consultations that have been leading up to her starting radiotherapy and chemotherapy for fairly advanced oesophageal and stomach cancer. The latter has obviously been somewhat of an emotional drain, but the worst has been the 2+ hours of driving involved with every appointment I’ve taken her to, while my back is basically a source of full-time grief.

Yes – I’ve had imaging done on my back. No – I haven’t had time to follow up with my own GP because Mum’s appointments have taken precedence. Yes – I’m hoping to find a workable time-slot with my own GP soon. I think I might have herniated a lumbar disk or two. However, combined with life-long issues with my right hip, back and other issues, it could also be ankylosing spondylitis starting to hit its stride.

Anyway – I’m doing my best to take it easy on creative endeavours in the countdown to uni studies resuming in a couple of weeks.

Prior to mum’s diagnosis and my back issues, I was working on a couple of game jam projects. I provided music for both of these.

I’ve since done work on other game jam projects that didn’t make it to the finish line due to back pain and other issues. I’ve been learning how to do 3D modelling in Blender and Unity development, and brushing up my knowledge on C# coding, S.O.L.I.D. coding practices, agile lifecycle management tools, source control and automated testing solutions in the meantime. I’m hoping to put those skills towards completing and shipping the incomplete games at some point, as well as starting work on a more ambitious game project once my back issues are sorted out. Watch this space for releases!

In the meantime, I’m starting to play with some themes for a composing competition entry for the Adelaide Wind Orchestra. I’m hoping to put a good mock-up together to share soon.
