SoundCloud Playlist for Uni Portfolio Pieces

I’ve finally managed to dot the I’s and cross the T’s on my third semester of uni, which has – of course – included a bevy of new tunes for the Principal Music Studios composing portfolio.

I’ve created a playlist to post these to. The latest ones are the Chronic Quintet, Sax Wicca and an update to Broken Mirror with some slightly improved instrumentation changes. At this point, they’re all as they came out of Sibelius using native sound libraries, but I intend to do more comprehensive MIDI mockups as soon as I’m able to get a copy of Cubase Pro, which supports most of the scoring conventions I use, whilst also providing much better support for plugin instruments, effects chains, mix bussing, etc.

I’ll be adding future portfolio compositions to this playlist, so feel free to bookmark it and check in occasionally.

Broken Mirror Changes.

I’ve “de-busied” Broken Mirror and implemented some drop voicings in parts which lend themselves to such things (mainly flutes, clarinets, horns and trumpets due to their respective ranges). I’ve also cleared up the bass-instrumentation quite a bit so it’s a little less cluttered in the low end. It’s still not quite where I want it to be and it’s next on the list for further clean-up after I finish Up and At ‘Em, the piece I composed for a different wind band competition last year.

What’s Next?

After I’ve completed the orchestration/arrangement changes for Broken Mirror and Up and At ‘Em, the next job on the list is – as discussed above – to create full DAW mockups for them to get the best sound possible. This might lead to some additional improvements and hopefully get them sounding like they’re ready for release.

Interested in Performing These Pieces?

If you are a band leader or are in a position to recommend my pieces to ensembles for performance, please feel free to reach out for copies of the scores using the contact form on this site. If you see some potential but would like a longer version of a given piece or additional instrumentation, please reach out via the contact form and we can talk about what might satisfy your needs.

I’m happy to trade free access to the scores for decent quality recordings with share-alike rights on performance/mechanical copyright and royalties, but that’s something I can only offer on a first-come, first-served basis.
